New Look - Linen Set but Make it Separates?

Going to keep this one short and sweet.

Pattern Review - New Look 6461

Pattern Details

  • Rated Easy

  • I agree with this rating

  • Pattern comes with 8 pieces in total

  • I needed 7 of the 8 pieces

  • There are 3 top views and 1 pants view

  • A dress, a tunic and a cropped top (not cropped about waist but about high hip)

  • Wide leg trouser

  • Pattern comes in printed version only

  • Fabric Recommendations: lightweight/drapey wovens (charmeuse, cotton types, linens, silky types)

  • (ABC) lawns, voiles & gauzes

  • Sturdy knits - ponte, double knit, french terry’s

  • Notions - 1 pkg of single fold bias tape (I made my own) & 1 yard of 1” wide elastic

Sizing

  • Size 6 -  18

  • B: 30.5 - 40

  • W: 23 - 32

  • H: 32.5 - 42

  • FGM (finished garment measurements)

  • B: 36.5 - 46 (6 inches of wearing ease)

  • H: 36.5 - 45.5 (5.5 inches of wearing ease)

  • I chose a size 18

  • My measurements are 44,37,47

Modifications Made

  • I modified the size first by shrinking the SA all over to a ½” SA not ⅝”

  • I added ½” to the CF and CB

  • I created a cut line along the crotch for front and back and added 2”

  • This was too excessive, I should have just added 1”

  • This growth would account for my full tummy and blessed buns

  • I added 3” to the side seams

  • Also too excessive, I should have gone for somewhere around 1.5”

  • All adjustments were relatively easy and pretty intuitive.

Construction

  • I skimmed the instructions in the beginning, they were what you would expect of a big 4 pattern.

  • I really didn’t follow them.

  • I only referred to them for the construction and adding on of the ties for view C

  • Per big 4 the pattern does not inform on how to finish seams, except the seams that are bound using bias tape.

  • There is nothing tricky about this pattern, it is EXTREMELY beginner friendly.

  • No new techniques were learned during the making of this pattern

  • I probably won’t make this pattern again. I have other patterns with similar silhouettes that I enjoy more.
